Thermal Insulation for Industrial Ducts and Pipes

The term thermal insulation can refer to materials used to reduce the rate of heat transfer, or the methods and processes used to reduce heat transfer. When temperature in duct or dust collector drops below water vapour dew point, vapour condenses into water. Water formation causes acidic attack on metal and material agglomeration in duct. Industrial systems from lime kiln to aluminium smelter attempt to prevent temperature drop by thermal insulation. DAV insulates it duct and dust collector with rockwool. Insulation specification ranging from 50kg/m3 to 120kg/m3 density of rockwool and 2 inches to 4 inches insulation thickness, depending on service temperature. Insulated duct is clad with 0.7mm thin aluminium sheet.

The R value or R-value is a measure of thermal resistance [1] used in the building and construction industry. The bigger the number, the better the building insulation's effectiveness.
